WILTON -- For the first time in six years, the Wilton hockey team is heading to the FCIAC playoffs.
By virtue of the team's 9-5 victory over Westhill on Wednesday, the Warriors clinched a spot in the league playoffs, which begin on Feb. 26-27.
"I think it's a reflection on the kids on this team," said Wilton head coach Brett Amero, "and of the senior leadership of this team. They've come to believe they're a good hockey team."
Wilton had hit the most difficult stretch of its schedule, a three-game parlay against a trio of Division 1 opponents.
The Warriors lost all three before bouncing back against a Vikings team that scored three third-period goals in a 5-4 win over Wilton earlier this season.
The Warriors, 12-6, close out the regular season by hosting the Fairfield co-op squad on Saturday at Winter Garden and then hitting the road to face Greenwich on Wednesday.
