Richard Murphy, 54, of 22 Ferris Ave. No. 5 Norwalk, was charged with reckless driving at 3 p.m. at the Wilton Police Department. According to police, Murphy turned himself in on an an active warrant, which stemmed from a motor vehicle accident on Route 7 in July of 2009. Murphy has a court date on March 8.


Monday, March 1


Richard Cummings, 23, of 7 Scott St., Norwalk, was charged with failure to drive right and operating under the influence of alcohol and or drugs at 1:52 a.m. on Route 7. According to police, Cummings was observed swerving between two southbound lanes on Route 7 on in the Ridgefield Road area. Upon stopping Cummings, it was determined he consumed alcoholic beverages prior to driving his vehicle, according to police. Cummings was unable to perform the standardized sobriety tests and was taken into custody. Cummings has a court date on March 11.


According to police, the Wilton Police Department was recently alerted by a Wilton resident of a fraudulent activity wherein a phone call is received from an unknown party who claims to be a jury duty coordinator. This caller attempts to seek personal information, such as a social security number and a date of birth, for a non-existent jury notice. This is a scam which has been attempted throughout the country in recent years, according to police.

Wilton Police want to remind residents that personal information should never be given out as a result of an unsolicited phone call from an unknown party. There are many different scams, often via phone calls or e-mail, that appear to target a specific individual but are in fact randomly made or sent, which a scam artist will continue to do in the hope that someone will give out their personal information, according to police.

According to Lt. Donald Wakeman of the Wilton Police Department, the caller who alerted the police department had learned about the scam through an e-mail which has been sent around town. Wakeman said he doesn't know of any Wilton residents who have been called by this scam artist.

"This is simply a warning we want to give to Wilton residents," said Wakeman. "To my knowledge, no Wilton residents have been affected by this scam. It's just a good reminder to have not t give out your personal information."
