Newspapers In Education Program
The Hour Newspaper in Education (NIE) "brings the community to Class" by providing copies of the newspaper to serve as a relevant living textbook. The newspaper expands the curriculum with an unlimited amount of information to use as background for learning activities. We provide creative teachers of all grade levels the necessary guides and materials needed to use the newspaper to enhance skills in reading, writing, listening, speaking, math, social studies and science.
News develops every day. The beauty of the newspaper in the classroom is that it is also fresh every day. When teachers use newspapers, they learn along with their students. They, too, discover new worlds and uncover new information.
Through corporate and individual subscriber sponsorship, most of our programs have been made available at minimal or no cost to over 800 educators in local public and private schools.
If you would like to have your students take advantage of Newspaper In Education, please contact Peter A. Kish, Education Services Manager, at (203) 354-1028.
