Some simple measures can save some energy

Stamford has to deal with the costs of energy, as does every municipality and every individual home and business owner.

The city of Chicopee, Mass., has taken a step that could be emulated everywhere. The school committee hired a consultant to make energy recommendations.

Now they are being implemented, including such simple moves as turning off the lights when not needed, shutting down computers in off hours and keeping the thermostat down to a healthy but cool level.

It is something we can replicate at home. Don't leave lights on unnecessarily, turn off the TV when there's nothing worth watching (which is much of the time) and shut down your home computer.

Small measures, but done collectively, they can make an impact.
