One gunshot? My god, that is heard every hour on Woodward, usually followed by bottles breaking, a shot or two more, and loud yelling. Perhaps the news writer has never walked on Woodward after dark, or even before dark. It's very historical. Disputes are solved on Woodward as they were in the Old West, may the best shooter win. I am surprised the mayor hasn't made it a tourist attraction, "The Wild West On Woodward." We used to have the Fracas on Day Street, but since most of Day was leveled, especially Lee's Kitchen, Woodward has consistently risen to a new level of barbarism in our wonderful neighborhood.

no amount of police presence is going to stop those idiots from shooting each other up "malcolm" so stop trying to pawn it off as it's the mayors fault. do you want dick out there with his own set of handcuffs?

why don't you do something about it?

If the someone put in an effort they could do something about it. Most of these incidents happen maybe about 200 yards apart (from Woodward and Meadow Street to Woodward and Burrit). Put a camera, or have 24 hour police presence. How hard is that? I find it interesting that there is never a cop around when something happens and things always happens in the same places. And this has been happening for years, since the 90s and probably before. The same corners. Not like nothing can be done about it, it's been done before. No one is interested in doing anything about right now is all...Everytime you get a new set of young kids that come along and think they're bad, the same things start happening. And why not, not like anyone's interested in arresting anyone.

Simple as this, Cops aren't fond of gettin shot and are fond of breathing, hence why theres no police presence in that area. They know its out of control and they would rather go back to thier wives and families than make sure someone else can go back to thiers.

Another play page out of Moccia's handbook isn't going save residents from this voilence.

You are another idiot! It is ultimately the mayor's fault because he is the one responsible for making sure the citizens of Norwalk, whereever they may reside, are safe. If you don't believe that, then maybe these shooting incidents should happen in your backyard and then we will see how you react. None of this should be happening but it is being allowed to happen deliberately in an attempt to make a point that the residents who live in the area are non-law abiding citizens when it is simmply not true. There are hard working folks who live in the area and they deserve to be protected from the outsiders who come in (probably sent by the police and the city) and disrupt their neighborhood! Mayor Moccia and Chief Knucklehead Rilling need to step up and do the job they were hired to do because they can be ousted too!

Your a disgrace among mayors, your stay in RI next to real mayors showed a lot of us when you came home without grants and pR you came home with nothing. You in return give us nothing but what 3 parking garages,a party in the pARK and a Duck boat.

BIG DEAL step down and let anyone fill your office we need help not two more years of 95/7

Can't take care of what we have now, stop building and fix what you have, those new Condo's by the Aquaruim nothing but trouble 100s of court cases taking valubale resouces Norwalk needs for the rest of the city, yet they were built for what a tax base to enhance the protection of the city?

How about if we give money not to build 95/7?

Okay! Mr Anonym-ass had the best solution - We do something about it. Take it into our own hands! It is time we the citizens hire our own sheriff and give him Woodward, Ely and Monterey, and tell him to clean it up, and the quicker the better and we give him a bigger bonus! Great idea! That is what we the citizens who must live in our houses near this lawless land must do! Consider this my ad for a People's Sheriff and I will also place it in Men of Fortune. Finally! I will be able to sit on my front porch with Mr. Anonym-ass and have a cigar with him. But he's probably a coward. And we all know the real reason there is no police presence - the mayor and his developer friends want to use the crimes as an excuse to tear down the area, since it is near the water, and build their own condos, etc. on the property. The governor of South Carolina has nothing on our mayor and his criminal developer friends.

It is the fault of the Mayor and the police department. These people are well paid by our tax dollars to serve and protect all the citizens of Norwalk.

The mayor is too busy giving taxpayer money away to Seligson to build empty parking garages instead of worrying about the safety of the citizens

Don't blame the Guardian angels, the Mayor has made life hell for them.

It is with extreme disgust and amazement that I read the ignorant statements in this blog.

I do not even know where to begin to craft my response. The comments contained in some of these idiotic offerings are just so bizarre and the authors prove they are clueless about everything.

Please save us the pain of your ignorant comments. If Norwalk is such a bad place, leave. If I hated it so much, I would. But NOOOOOO!! All you do is continue to complain while offering absolutely NO solutions. You sound like the Hour and Advocate editorials. Spare us, PLEASE....

Housing authority police? Well its an idea but the legal ramifications are enormus. More cameras, in strategic locations, okay. Ultimtley, it is not a police issue. What! NOT a police issue? There have been some interesting comments made amongst the rants. Redlining is so 'blightingly' apparent. It's just so infuriating that lives are being lost forever for profit and power. There is no respect for authority. Why? Because nobody cares. It is, that simple. The ones that do have an interest have hard cash on the table and for the one's with nothing but thier lives, they dont even have a seat at the table. When all people have a vested interest in their homes and community, than pride shines. Let human beings live in conditions you would never allow a pet, than street respect becomes an insane cycle of violence. What if we actually gave a hoot and gave people a decent place to live and something in thier belly, reach out and take hold the struggling hands, give your neighbor a lift up. Could that be a way to stop the violence and respect oneanother?
