WiltonConnect allows charter input online
Posted on 07/01/2009
By TOM EVANS Villager Staff Writer WILTON -- While the Town Charter remains under review by several committees, boards and commissions, residents can check the progress from the comfort of their homes. John Savarese, the information systems director for the town, said people can weigh in with comments and questions through a link called "WiltonConnect" on the town Web site, www.wiltonct.org. "We put up WiltonConnect last summer, and only a few people have posted comments," Savarese said. "I don't think we pushed it, and we didn't publicize WiltonConnect. The most recent comment was made over 46 weeks ago." Town Charter review is currently the lead item on the town's main page, and WiltonConnect can be accessed by clicking on the active link "Charter Commission Web page" just below the photo of the sky-blue charter cover. That link takes visitors to the page entitled "Wilton Charter Commission." WiltonConnect can be found by clicking on the link "Read the current Wilton Charter On-line." Once on the "Welcome to WiltonConnect!" page, visitors can go through a simple, no-charge registration to read the current charter and any suggested changes, post comments in a general forum, or ask questions of Charter Commission members via e-mail. All comments and questions are posted anonymously through a visitor's site user name. "The current charter is up there," Savarese said. "The charter Web site is very useful. Visitors can go through the charter article by article, and they can even find all the places where a specific word, like 'finance,' is used in the Charter." Savarese pointed out that the few comments made so far have been insightful, and he encourages more public contributions as the Charter Commission works to put a revised document on the Nov. 3 ballot.
COMMENTING RULES: We encourage an open exchange of ideas in Wilton Villager community, but we ask you to follow our guidelines. Basically, be civil, smart, on-topic and free from profanity.
