Conn. lawmakers postpone budget sessions

HARTFORD (AP) -- Officials with the Connecticut House and Senate say they've postponed sessions on the state budget to next week.

Lawmakers had planned to return to the Capitol for a third day in a row Friday to work on bills that spell out details of the two-year, $37.6 billion budget approved several weeks ago. Dates for next week's sessions haven't been set.

The House gave final legislative approval early Friday to a bill on spending for public health programs, and later passed a social services spending bill that it sent to the Senate.

Lawmakers still need to take up legislation on education and general government spending.

Legislators earlier this week approved a reorganization of probate courts and a $50 million increase in state fees.
