NAMI guest speaker to tackle housing for homeless

FAIRFIELD

The National Alliance on Mental Illness's First Wednesday of the Month speaker will present "Understanding Permanent Supportive Housing for the Homeless with Mental Illness," according to a news release.

The lecture occurs Wednesday, Jan. 6, in the Eliot Room Library, First Church Congregational, 148 Beach Road, Fairfield from 7:30 to 9 p.m. It will focus on permanent supportive housing, federal and state definitions of chronic homelessness, homelessness, and disabled persons, and eligibility criteria and application process for Community Residential Services.

This is an important meeting for anyone who has ever been concerned about supportive housing for their loved one with mental illness, according to the release.

The presenter of this program will be Joyce Platz, Executive Director, Hall-Brooke Community Residential Services, and the Director of Regulatory Initiatives. Platz has been a member of the management team at Hall-Brooke for almost 20 years. She has expertise in mental health management, budgeting, program development, and regulatory compliance, according to the release.

Platz was a key player in the development and implementation of Hall-Brooke's Residential Service programs. Platz holds a degree from the University of Connecticut in Human Development and Family Relations and a Certificate of Advanced Study in Health Care Administration from Fairfield University.

The meeting is free of charge and open to all. Light refreshments will be served. In case of inclement weather or for more information, call Judy at (203) 650-3463.

NAMI's goals are to support those living with mental illness and their loved ones, to provide educational programs to the community that foster understanding and healthy living, and to provide advocacy.
