Norwalk chiropractor Hammer speaks at conference

Dr. Warren Hammer, a Norwalk chiropractor for almost 50 years, recently returned from Amsterdam, Netherlands, where he was invited to speak at the second International Fascia Congress, according to a news release.

This congress, attended by medical practitioners who focus on soft tissue problems, was developed to further the understanding of the fascial system.

"The fascial system," Hammer said, "is a connective system that pervades the human body but it has not been extensively studied in the past. It is now recognized that when the fascia surrounding muscles and tendons become restricted, musculoskeletal problems result."

Hammer, who specializes in the treatment of soft tissue injuries as well as the malfunctions of the skeletal system, addressed the congress on the treatment of soft tissue injuries with Graston Technique and the effect this technique has on fascia.

After the conference, Hammer was invited to spend several days in Italy to observe a famous physical therapist, Luigi Stecco, who has devoted his career to a deep understanding of the fascial system and who has developed a therapy called Fascial Manipulation.

Hammer was excited about the potential of this therapy to treat patients in this part of the world and he is now using some of Stecco's soft tissue methods for his own patients.
