Stamford support group helps teen girls

STAMFORD

Being a kid can be tough these days. With so much stress around relationships, peer pressure, body issues and boundaries, the teenage years can be the most confusing of a young person's life.

To provide girls between the ages of 12 to 14 with a place they can freely talk about the issues most affecting their lives, Family Centers is starting a new discussion and support group called "Chit Chat." In addition to delving into the various social stressors that teens face, participants are also encouraged to discuss other interests such as books, music and movies with the group.

Led by Chris Speck and Rosemary Contreras, "Chit Chat" is held every Wednesday for six weeks beginning Wednesday, Feb. 3, from 4 to 5 p.m. at Family Centers' 60 Palmer's Hill Road location in Stamford.

Each session costs $25. Some forms of insurance are accepted, and a sliding scale is available for those who qualify.

For more information, contact Chris Speck or Rosemary Contreras at (203) 324-3167 or
e-mail speckfamily@ mac.com or rocofc@ aol.com.
