Senators sweep Warriors in basketball



WILTON -- The Brien McMahon Senators went 6-for-6 to open the third quarter, draining five 3-pointers in the process, to blow open a close game and defeat Wilton 71-58 in girls FCIAC basketball action on Monday night.

The loss left Wilton stuck on seven wins, one shy of the state tournament heading into Wednesday's season finale at Ridgefield.

If the Warriors can beat the Tigers, they'll qualify for the state tournament. If they lose the 2010 season is over.

Against McMahon on Monday, Stacy Pokora tossed in 18 points while Casey Pearsall added 13 and Steph Boyles had 10.

Kaitlin Whittington led all scorers with 27 points for McMahon.

McMahon 56, Wilton 51

NORWALK -- A bad third quarter cost Wilton a chance at victory.

The Warriors led 25-21 at the half, but McMahon turned an 18-7 scoring advantage in the second quarter into the win.

Ian Ross had 12 points for Wilton while Kurt Marut added 10.

The Warriors host Ridgefield on Wednesday.
