Rell tours storm damage in Conn.
Posted on 03/15/2010
HARTFORD (AP) -- Gov. M. Jodi Rell is touring southwestern Connecticut Monday to see the damage caused by a strong rain and wind storm that hit over the weekend. Fairfield County was the hardest hit area of the state. The storm knocked down trees and utility wires, causing thousands of power outages and prompting many towns to cancel school Monday. A spokeswoman for the governor said Rell will be touring the area Monday. Connecticut Light & Power and United Illuminating say more than 59,000 of their customers remain without power, down from a high of more than 85,000. There are more than 15,000 outages in Greenwich and more than 14,000 in Stamford. Police say two women died when trees fell on them Saturday night in separate incidents in Westport and Greenwich.
