Police Department honors its own

WILTON -- Monday night was full of commendations, recognitions and awards as friends, family and officers of the Wilton Police Department gathered in the Wilton Library Brubeck Room.

March 15 marked the 8th annual Wilton Police Department Awards Ceremony and, according to Chief Michael Lombardo, it was a night dedicated to the extraordinary work that Wilton police officers put in everyday.

"I believe that these officers have the education and dedication to their chosen professions," said Lombardo at the event. "I am extremely proud of this department. Completing their job is not an easy task."

Lombardo recognized 19 officers at the awards ceremony, which included awards for meritorious police service, citation of commendation, letters of recognition and a life saving award. Some of the award recipients included: Detective Peter Trahan, for solving multiple car burglaries around High Field Road, where GPS, iPod units and other electronics had been stolen; Detectives Kip Tarrent and Christopher Isidro, for helping catch the two bank robbers who robbed a total of 12 banks in Fairfield County; and Officer Frank Razzaia, who found a suspect that was convicted of driving a stolen car and committing several car burglaries in Wilton.

The last award, Officer of the Year, which, according to Lombardo, represents the highest standard of the police profession, was given to Officer Robert Cippola.

Cippola, who started working with the Wilton Police Department in 2006, said it's a true honor to be selected for officer of the year.

"I wouldn't be here without my family and my co-workers, who are like my family -- sometimes like an annoying older brother, but still family," said Cippola. "It's an honor this award is being passed down to me from Detective Trahan, who made me into the officer that I am today."

First Selectman Bill Brennan said Wilton appreciates all that the police department does for the town.

"It's great to have the talent these officers demonstrate recognized," said Brennan. "We are very fortunate to have such a great police force."

The hard hitting, no nonesense, under the gun Wilton CT police! Good thing there''s no real crime in Wilton...Gives the cops a lot of time to pat each other on the back for doing a whole lot of not too much.

One day at the worst possible time (I hope it never happens) you may go through a very difficult situation i.e. rape, robbery or assault or have an accident & get hurt. When you need help you will call 911 and one of these people will come to your assistance and help you in your time of need, and they won’t care that you wrote your douchey little comment. Are there bad cops? Yes just like bad teachers, priest, lawyers, bankers, doctors & politicians. So they take an hour or less to commend the ones that did a great job that year. Oh by the way the pay isn’t that great and the benefits are dwindling but most of them ever did it for the money.

And is that a bad thing? These are the people that for the most part, are there for you whenever your life is in danger or something goes wrong. For the crimes that are actually committed here in Wilton, they do a decent job.
