Health career open house planned for Saturday

BRIDGEPORT

Staff report

St. Vincent's College will host an open house for its degree and certificate programs in health care on Saturday, March 27, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., 2800 Main St. in Bridgeport, according to a news release.

The college offers associate in science degrees in nursing, medical assisting, general studies and radiography, as well as a wide range of continuing education and certificate programs leading to health care careers.

"We're one of the best private college health care buys in Connecticut, and our enrollment continues to grow because people of all ages have a strong interest in a health care career," said Joanne Wolfertz, Ed.D., vice president and academic dean. She said the open house is an opportunity to learn about pursuing a degree or a short-term certificate program leading to employment in the health care field.

Certificate programs leading to health care careers include Medical Assisting, Healthcare Reimbursement Specialist, Medical Office Assistant, Healthcare Management (online), Hospital Coding Specialist, Central Sterile Processing Technician, Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Health Promotion, Multi-Skilled Assistant and the RN Refresher Program.

The open house will include presentations on the admissions process, financial aid, student life activities, and continuing education programs. Presentations will also be made by each of the program directors.

The St. Vincent's College nursing program offers classroom and early hands-on experiences in a variety of clinical areas including medicine, surgery, maternal-child health, psychiatry and critical care. While St. Vincent's Medical Center serves as the primary clinical setting for this program, a select number of facilities and agencies within the greater Bridgeport area are also utilized.

In addition to drawing recent high school graduates and college transfers, the St. Vincent's College also attracts many adults interested in making a career change. The average age of students is 28, and many attend courses while also working to support themselves and their families.

St. Vincent's College, located on the Medical Center campus, is easily accessible from I-95, Route 8/25 and the Merritt Parkway.

It offers full and part-time classes in both day and evening hours as well as a growing list of online courses. Financial aid is available to eligible students.

Free parking will be available in the Hunting Street Garage across the street from the College upon validation of ticket.

To reserve a place at the open house or for more information, call St. Vincent's at (800) 873-1013, or register online at www.stvincentscollege.edu.
