Dave Brubeck to perform at Newport Jazz Festival

NEWPORT, R.I. (AP) -- Pianist Dave Brubeck is scheduled to appear at the Newport Jazz Festival next month. Brubeck, who turns 90 in December, played at the first festival in Newport in 1954, and also performed at the 50th anniversary show in 2004. He most recently played at the 2009 festival. He will perform Aug. 8 alongside the Wynton Marsalis Quintet. Festival organizers announced Brubeck's appearance on Wednesday. Other performers this year include Herbie Hancock and the Chick Corea Freedom Band with Kenny Garrett. Tickets are still available.
