KC Moss makes debut at U.S. Senior Nationals; finishes 33rd out of 120 swimmers

Staff Report

IRVINE, Calif. -- A total of 120 swimmers took part in the 100 breaststroke preliminaries during Thursday's U.S. National Senior Swim Championships meet.

And Wilton's KC Moss -- one of the youngest swimmers in the field -- placed 33rd out of those of 120.

Moss swam a time of 1:11.97, leaving her just one second shy of making it to the C-Flight finals -- but she was the top 15-year-old in the meet, bettering New York State rival Annie Zhu, whose time of 1:12.09 left her in 37th.

Twenty-three-year-old Rebecca Soni had the fastest time following preliminaries with a 1:06.53. Amanda Beard wsa seventh in 1:08.72.

Moss was seeded 31st in the event, but all the times seemed approximately two seconds slower than the seeded times.

Moss, who will be a junior at Wilton High this fall, competes again on Saturday in her strongest event -- the 200-meter breaststroke. She is seeded 12th.

in that event with a time of 2:29.32
