Gardner wins Republican registrar race
Posted on 08/10/2010
By KARA O'CONNOR Villager Staff Writer WILTON -- Incumbent Republican Registrar of Voters Tina Gardner may not have had the support from the Republican Town Committee, but the majority of the town's Republican voters backed her in Tuesday's primary election. Gardner, who filed a petition to appear on the primary ballot, received 755 votes on Tuesday in the Republican registrar race, while newcomer Mary Arbisi netted 510. In May, Arbisi was nominated by the RTC to represent the party. "I was very confident the Republicans in town would support me and they did," said Gardner after learning of the results. "I thank them and the people I work with." RTC chairman Al Alper said he is looking forward to working with Gardner. "I fully expect a terrific working relationship with Tina and moving forward," he said. "I hope the discussions we had during the campaign will help us find a common ground to move the party forward." Alper said that even though the RTC nominated Arbisi for the position, there are no hard feelings on either side. "At the end of the day, the RTC represents the Republicans in Wilton and they have spoken," said Alper. "We will do our best and work our hardest to ensure a terrific relationship." Gardner said she is happy the election is finally over. "It was so hot out and really tiring," said Gardner. "It's finally over and I'm glad that I can get back to work in the registrars' office."
