Lilly, Breakers hosting free clinic day before New Britain game
Posted on 08/12/2010
Staff Report NEW BRITAIN -- International soccer legend and Connecticut native Kristine Lilly and her fellow Boston Breakers teammates will hold a free soccer clinic for children on Friday, August 20 from 5:45-6:45 p.m., at the Veteran's Memorial Stadium. The free clinic is in advance of the Boston Breakers game against the Atlanta Beat at Memorial Stadium on Saturday, August 21 at 5pm. The game will mark the first time women's professional soccer has been played in Connecticut. The clinic will teach children fundamental soccer skills along with some fancy footwork. Youngsters will have the rare opportunity to sharpen their skills with tips from some of the best players in the world. "Growing up here in Connecticut, I know how important it is for kids, especially young girls to have positive role models," said Kristine Lilly. "I can't wait to meet the young players and to play in New Britain. This is a homecoming for me." Lilly is the most decorated women's soccer player in history. Lilly is a two time world cup and Olympic champion. Lilly is also the all-time leader in minutes played and the 2nd second all-time leading scorer in history.
