Bysiewicz campaign spending under investigation
Posted on 08/16/2010
HARTFORD (AP) -- Connecticut election officials are investigating whether Secretary of the State Susan Bysiewicz illegally spent thousands of dollars in campaign money after she was ruled ineligible to run for attorney general. The state Elections Enforcement Commission voted to look into the matter last week. The state Supreme Court ruled May 18 that Bysiewicz, a Democrat, didn't have enough legal experience to run for attorney general. The Hartford Courant reports that Bysiewicz continued to spend thousands of dollars after the ruling, including paying for at least seven parties for democrats that she says were to thank them for their support. Bob Martino, a senior campaign adviser to Bysiewicz, says he doesn't believe her campaign violated state law.
