Budget, bonding pass vote; lowest voter turnout in 11 years

WILTON - Wilton's 2009 $107,582,997 budget and two school bonding issues passed easily but with the lowest voter turnout in the last 11 years.

Only 8.6 percent - 947 of the 10,993 eligible voters - cast ballots on Tuesday, May 6, and on Saturday, May 10.

Approximately two thirds of the voters, 628, approved the budget with 309 residents voting it was too high. Nine voters said the budget was too low.

The first bonding issue on the ballot, a $500,000 appropriation to replace the Nicholas Zeoli Field House Roof, passed by a margin of 716 to 229.

The second bonding issue, $450,000 to be spent on architectural and engineering work for the heating ventilation and air conditioing system, eight science labs and the Little Theater, faced more resistance from the voters compared to the first bonding issue.

There 605 voters approved the allocation, while 339 were opposed.
