Postmaster moving on

WILTON — After two years as Wilton's postmaster Dennis Kassimis is moving to take over as Westport's postmaster. "It's a new challenge and I like challenges," said Kassimis. He has been postmaster in Wilton since April 2006 and said he enjoyed working in Wilton. "It was a good experience. I met some good people, it's a good town," said Kassimis, 44. Raised in the Bronx, N.Y., he moved to Norwalk when he was 16 and began as a postal letter carrier in Stamford on Jan. 4, 1986. In 1992 he became a letter carrier in Trumbull and in 1999 became a supervisor in Bridgeport. In 2001 he became a manager in Waterbury. No one has been named as the new postmaster for Wilton. Kassimis will begin his new position in the next two weeks.

Fire meeting




WILTON — The Wilton Fire Department will have a meeting to learn if there is enough interest by residents in becoming volunteer firefighters. The meeting will be held Wednesday, May 21, at 7 p.m. at town hall. At the meeting information will be provided about the opportunities for volunteers, ranging from active firefighting, low-risk tasks at a fire to administrative duties.

Freedman tribute

WILTON — A tribute was held Wednesday, May 7, for State Sen. Judith G. Freedman, R-26, who is retiring at the end of her current term in office. State senators from both parties will pay their respects to her during the session. She represents seven towns, including Wilton, in the state senate. The other towns are Ridgefield, Redding, Westport, Bethel, and parts of New Canaan and Weston. State Rep. Toni Boucher, R-143, is seeking the Republican nomination for the position on Tuesday, May 13.

Tax relief

WILTON — Elderly Wilton Homeowners and Totally Disabled Homeowners who have not yet applied for tax relief benefits on their July 2008 tax bills, are reminded that Thursday, May 15 is the last day applications will be accepted in the Assessor's Office.

The Town of Wilton tax relief program requires an annual filing. The State of Connecticut tax relief program requires a biennial filing. Proof of income must accompany the application(2007 Income Tax Return & Social Security Form 1099, if no income tax return is filed then all proof of income including Social Security Form 1099).
