The annual food drive organized by the United States Postal Service, the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) and the Campbell Soup Company will have letter carriers collecting non-perishable food items in residents' mailboxes to give to food pantries all over the country.
"The food drive is the hallmark of the union's tradition of community service," said NALC President William H. Young, "a very rich tradition that includes numerous heroic acts by carriers as they deliver mail along their routes."
Area residents are encouraged to place bags filled with non-perishable food items in their mailboxes for pickup on May 10. The Wilton Post Office will also have a collection bin setup in the lobby throughout the day.
The food drive, in its 16th year, is the largest one-day food collection in the nation. In 2007, "Stamp Out Hunger" had letter carriers delivering more than 70 million pounds of food to food pantries.
