WILTON St. Petersburg police are still awaiting for more tests, including the blood alcohol content, of a man accused of killing a Wilton resident Tuesday, April 2.
"We don't have anything back yet," said police spokesman George L. Kajtsa Thursday.
Timothy Owen Wood Jr., 24, died instantly after he was struck by a vehicle while walking early that morning. He was in the Florida city on vacation.
St. Petersburg police arrested James Kenneth Dean Jr., 53, of 6299 Palma Del Mar Boulevard South #305.
He has been charged with driving under the influence manslaughter, driving under the influence causing serious property damage and leaving the scene of a serious injury crash. He made a court appearance Wednesday.
St. Petersburg police alleged Dean drove his 2007 Ford pickup truck on to the shoulder of the road and struck Wood.
In a press release police said: "For an unknown reason, Dean drove off the east side of the roadway and struck Wood. Wood struck his head on the windshield and right front passenger window of the truck. He then tumbled onto the shoulder, coming to rest against the east guardrail."
They alleged Dean left the scene and drove to his nearby home.
There were no witness to the scene of the fatal accident but police began to build a case after arresting Dean in connection with another accident.
Police alleged Dean drove erratically while trying to return to his home and his vehicle came to a stop on the median center on the Pinellas Bayway.
The truck was missing a right front headlight, a missing passenger side mirror and a right front passenger window which was broken out, with glass shards throughout the truck's interior, said police.
Police linked the two scenes together and arrested Dean.
A memorial service was held Monday, April 7, for Wood at Hope Church on Monday, April 7.
He is survived by his parents Timothy and Robin, and two sisters, Shelly Wood and Sandy Wood both of Los Angeles, CA.
