Townwide Community Cleanup
The Wilton Conservation Commission invites all citizens to usher in the spring season by participating in the 30th annual Townwide Community Cleanup on Saturday, April 26, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. In 1978, the Conservation Commission formed the "Litter P'troll" and picked up litter around town. The Commission has carried on this spring tradition from year to year and is celebrating 30 years of community cleanup this spring.
Each year as the snow clears, unsightly litter that has blown or been otherwise improperly disposed detracts from the clean renewal that spring brings. Consequently, April is the perfect time for the Cleanup because the leaves are gone from the trees and bushes and the litter along the roads and paths is visible. Please spread the word to your friends and neighbors that now is the time to cleanup our Town.
The annual Townwide Community Cleanup is sponsored by the Conservation Commission and participation is welcomed by individuals and organizations. Residents can either focus on their own neighborhoods, or meet up with other volunteers at the Town Green (the gazebo opposite Village Market) and target areas that could really use a cleanup. If you or your organization wishes to cleanup a target area, you can come to the Town Green on April 26th and choose from a list of sites or contact the Conservation Commission office in advance for an assignment. Garbage bags and trash collection will be available at the gazebo and participants are encouraged to bring their own work gloves.
Stefano's Pizza has supported the cleanup effort in the past by donating pizza for volunteers. This year Stefano's Pizza will again be donating vouchers for free pizza; either a free slice of pizza for a single volunteer or a free large pizza for a family (parent and child) who volunteers for the cleanup.
For more information on the cleanup contact the Conservation Commission Office at (203) 563-0182.
Town returns to court in blight issue
WILTON The town and a Wilton property owner charged by the town under blight-related offenses return to court on Monday, May 5.
The case was spoken to in court on Monday, April 7.
Mr. and Mrs. John Rebo of 118 Cherry Lane were charged by the town last year with violating the town's zoning regulations. On Nov. 12 a judge decided the town could start assessing fines of $100 per day against the couple after ruling they were in "willful non-compliance" for failing to act on the town's request. The couple are facing fines of more than $15,000.
The town has set April 21 for a public hearing on a proposed new blight ordinance.
Currently the town enforces blight issues through zoning regulations and the health and safety code.
New crosswalks on the agenda
WILTON On Wednesday, April 9 at the Police Commissioner's Meeting the motion to put two new crosswalks on River Road was approved. According to Chief Kulhawik there will be a crosswalk at Greyrock Condos and Village Walk Condos in the south entrance.
"Both of these areas are well illuminated," said Kulhawik. "This is a good plan, it satisfies concerns with lighting and will tie up the center nicely."
